Choosing somewhere to stay for your holiday is never straightforward, but it is made even harder in North Cyprus by the sheer variety of accommodation that is available. For a relatively small and quiet country, the range is quite outstanding and at Turika we offer everything from tiny boutique hotels with just a few rooms, to substantial leisure complexes with every possible amenity, even including a championship-standard golf course. They do have a few things in common though. Cyprus is known for its friendly and helpful people and hotel staff will go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The island is also noted for its excellent cuisine and here, again, its hotels and holiday villages are no different. It is also surprising to many guests that virtually all the hotels, including many of the large ones, remain family owned and run.

For most holidaymakers, location will be the first main factor. Although the city of Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus, the two main centres for hotel accommodation are Kyrenia on the north coast of the island and Famagusta on the east. They have a somewhat different atmosphere and appeal. Kyrenia is a lively and pretty harbour town with plenty of places of interest nearby. There are a number of hotels in the town itself, and many more in the surrounding villages or to the east and west along the Mediterranean shores. From Kyrenia it is easy to visit magical places such as Bellapais Village and its stunning Abbey, the fairy-tale castle of Saint Hilarion and many other wonderful sights.

By contrast, Famagusta has a more exotic, Middle Eastern feel to it. Most of the hotels around here are larger, with substantial and beautiful sandy beaches. Many lie to the north of the town and the trend here is towards relaxing holidays with everything provided, however, the Famagusta region is excellent for exploring the vast, magnificent and sparsely populated Karpaz Peninsula, the varied and interesting historical treasures in the old town, and the nearby vast and amazing ruins of the Roman city of Salamis. Both Kyrenia and Famagusta are in easy reach of Nicosia for a day trip.

There are a number of smaller, boutique hotels in North Cyprus that offer something a little more unusual. Often in quieter locations and small villages, they provide a unique experience and frequently combine superb dining with interesting décor. For the budget conscious, there are some very attractive small hotels and holiday villages. Although lacking the ultimate facilities of larger resorts, they always offer a friendly welcome, traditional food and extremely comfortable accommodation. At the other end of the scale, some of the larger complexes offer so many facilities and activities that you could easily spend your entire holiday without leaving the premises and still never be bored or short of something to entertain you. A number of the larger properties are also available on an ‘all-inclusive’ basis, giving you peace of mind in terms of planning your total holiday budget.

KYRENIA TOWN

5* Jasmine Court Hotel. Excellent sea-front location in extensive grounds. On the eastern outskirts of the town, but within walking distance of the centre. Superb facilities.
5* Vuni Palace Hotel. Sea-front setting on the eastern outskirts of the town. Walking distance to the centre. Private beach and good facilities. Attractive with large gardens.
5* Grand Pasha Hotel. East of the harbour, within walking distance. Well appointed and tastefully decorated with excellent facilities including spa centre.
4* Dome Hotel. An almost colonial and traditional atmosphere. Very close to the harbour. Sea-front with fresh and se-water pools. An emphasis on service and comfort.
4* Pia Bella Hotel. An easy walk from the centre and with many repeat visitors. Family-run with pleasant gardens and two freshwater pools. Well known for its catering standards.
3* Sammy’s Hotel. Quiet, residential area close to the centre. A small, long-established, family-run property with comfortable accommodation, good food and a friendly welcome.

CLOSE TO KYRENIA TOWN
4* Oscar Resort Hotel. A mile to the east of the town. Large resort with sea-front location, good facilities and choice of accommodation. Very family-friendly and popular.
3* Ship Inn Hotel. A mile to the west. Very popular and traditional, family-run property. Comfortable rooms with good facilities. A warm welcome and relaxation are the norm here.
3* Onar Village. Hillside location overlooking the town. Includes mini-villas for families, but has a relaxed and refined feel. Good restaurant and pool, and an amazing Turkish bath.
3* Altinkaya Holiday Village. A mile from Kyrenia on the route to Bellapais Village. Family-run and long established. Choice of accommodation, two pools, excellent food and a warm welcome.

WEST OF KYRENIA
5* Merit Crystal Cove. About 6 miles from Kyrenia. Large and luxurious with private beach and very extensive facilities. Mainly based on an all-inclusive package.
5* Merit Park Hotel. ‘Ultra all-inclusive’ package in an excellent sea-front setting with a massive range of facilities. Very luxurious, but comfortable and relaxing.
4* LA Resort Hotel. Sea-front location in the Lapta area. Choice of accommodation. Comfortably and pleasantly furnished. Three pools and its own sandy beach.
4* Lapethos Resort Hotel. Extensive landscaped gardens with very good facilities including aqua park. Ideal family choice with varied accommodation.
4* Deniz Kizi Hotels. Two hotel buildings built around a sandy cove and with good facilities including two beautiful freshwater pools. Well known for its food and standards.
3* Hotel Sempati. Comfortable and family-run. Close to a beach and with its own superb pool. A friendly welcome combined with good food and service.
3* Pine Bay Club. Close to the sea with a lively atmosphere. Accommodation is in just 18 large apartments and the restaurant is well known locally.
3* Rose Gardens Holiday Village. Set in lush gardens, a small, family-run self-catering property with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Good pool and restaurant.
3* Almond Holiday Village. Various accommodation set in beautiful gardens with an attractive pool. Very highly rated with many returning visitors. Family friendly, but quiet.
3* Riverside Gardens Resort. A substantial family-run property, but set in acres of stunning gardens it never feels crowded. Excellent facilities, well managed, friendly and very popular.
3* Mountain View Hotel. Spectacular views, friendly atmosphere and a relaxing feel. Very comfortable and welcoming with pool, bar and good restaurant.
Special category, Lapida Hotel. Very small and very friendly. Family-run with just a few rooms and fresh, local cuisine. Pleasant pool and lovely grounds.

EAST OF KYRENIA
5* Acapulco Resort Hotel. Extensive property with private beach, choice of accommodation, numerous bars and restaurants and truly excellent facilities.
5* Cratos Premium Hotel. Highly luxurious with wonderful facilities in a sea-front setting. Choice of restaurants, spa centre and diving school on site.
5* Malpas Hotel. Contemporary décor, excellent setting and good facilities make this feel a very special place to stay. Large, but does not feel it; in the best way.
